On a bare hill raise a signal; cry aloud to them; wave the hand for them to enter the gates of the nobles.


A thousand shall flee at the threat of one; at the threat of five you shall flee until you are left like a flagstaff on the top of a mountain, like a signal on a hill.


A sword against her horses and against her chariots and against all the foreign troops in her midst, so that they may become women! A sword against her treasures, that they may be plundered!


The warriors of Babylon have given up fighting; they remain in their strongholds; their strength has failed; they have become women; her buildings are set on fire; her bars are broken.


Your warriors shall be shattered, O Teman, so that everyone from Mount Esau will be cut off.


Look at your troops: they are women in your midst. The gates of your land are wide open to your foes; fire has devoured the bars of your gates.


They shall pass through the sea of distress, and the waves of the sea shall be struck down, and all the depths of the Nile dried up. The pride of Assyria shall be laid low, and the scepter of Egypt shall depart.


Be silent, all flesh, before the Lord, for he has roused himself from his holy dwelling.


For I am going to raise my hand against them, and they shall become plunder for their own slaves. Then you will know that the Lord of hosts has sent me.


And I came to you in weakness and in fear and in much trembling.


Therefore, knowing the fear of the Lord, we try to persuade people, but we ourselves are well known to God, and I hope that we are also well known to your consciences.


It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.
