How then can you repulse a single captain among the least of my master’s servants when you rely on Egypt for chariots and for horsemen?


“Thus shall you speak to King Hezekiah of Judah: Do not let your God on whom you rely deceive you by promising that Jerusalem will not be given into the hand of the king of Assyria.


He gives them security, and they are supported; his eyes are upon their ways.


But this is not what he intends, nor does he have this in mind, but it is in his heart to destroy and to cut off nations not a few.


Is not Calno like Carchemish? Is not Hamath like Arpad? Is not Samaria like Damascus?


Come now, make a wager with my master the king of Assyria: I will give you two thousand horses, if you are able on your part to set riders on them.


Thus says the Lord: Do not let the wise boast in their wisdom; do not let the mighty boast in their might; do not let the wealthy boast in their wealth;


For thus says the Lord God: I will bring against Tyre from the north King Nebuchadrezzar of Babylon, king of kings, together with horses, chariots, cavalry, and a great and powerful army.


So it towered high above all the trees of the field; its boughs grew large and its branches long, from abundant water in its shoots.


You, O king, the king of kings—to whom the God of heaven has given the kingdom, the power, the might, and the glory,


Though they bargain with the nations, I will now gather them up. They shall soon writhe under the burden of kings and princes.
