Then Reuben answered them, “Did I not tell you not to wrong the boy? But you would not listen. So now there comes a reckoning for his blood.”


How much more, then, when wicked men have killed a righteous man on his bed in his own house! And now shall I not require his blood at your hand and destroy you from the earth?”


Act, therefore, according to your wisdom, but do not let his gray head go down to Sheol in peace.


Now when Athaliah, Ahaziah’s mother, saw that her son was dead, she set about to destroy all the royal family.


King Joash did not remember the kindness that Jehoiada, Zechariah’s father, had shown him but killed his son. As he was dying, he said, “May the Lord see and avenge!”


His servants conspired against him and killed him in his house.


But the people of the land killed all those who had conspired against King Amon, and the people of the land made his son Josiah king to succeed him.


For he who avenges blood is mindful of them; he does not forget the cry of the afflicted.


“Whoever strikes a person mortally shall be put to death.


You shall not go around as a slanderer among your people, and you shall not stand idly by when the blood of your neighbor is at stake: I am the Lord.


Anyone who kills a human being shall be put to death.


One who kills an animal shall make restitution for it, but one who kills a human being shall be put to death.


“But anyone who strikes another with an iron object, and death ensues, is a murderer; the murderer shall be put to death.


Or anyone who strikes another with a stone in hand that could cause death, and death ensues, is a murderer; the murderer shall be put to death.


Or anyone who strikes another with a weapon of wood in hand that could cause death, and death ensues, is a murderer; the murderer shall be put to death.


or in enmity strikes another with the hand, and death ensues, then the one who struck the blow shall be put to death; that person is a murderer; the avenger of blood shall put the murderer to death when they meet.


so that upon you may come all the righteous blood shed on earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah son of Barachiah, whom you murdered between the sanctuary and the altar.


From one ancestor he made all peoples to inhabit the whole earth, and he allotted the times of their existence and the boundaries of the places where they would live,


“But if someone at enmity with another lies in wait and attacks and takes the life of that person and flees into one of these cities,


then the elders of the killer’s city shall send to have the culprit taken from there and handed over to the avenger of blood to be put to death.


Thus God repaid Abimelech for the crime he committed against his father in killing his seventy brothers;
