When he was about to enter Egypt, he said to his wife Sarai, “I know well that you are a woman beautiful in appearance,


and I will make you swear by the Lord, the God of heaven and earth, that you will not get a wife for my son from the daughters of the Canaanites, among whom I live,


and they made life bitter for Isaac and Rebekah.


Then Rebekah said to Isaac, “I am weary of my life because of the Hittite women. If Jacob marries one of the Hittite women such as these, one of the women of the land, what good will my life be to me?”


So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food and that it was a delight to the eyes and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate, and she also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate.


To Seth also a son was born, and he named him Enosh. At that time people began to invoke the name of the Lord.


When people began to multiply on the face of the ground, and daughters were born to them,


Then the Lord said, “My spirit shall not abide in mortals forever, for they are flesh; their days shall be one hundred twenty years.”


It happened, late one afternoon when David rose from his couch and was walking about on the roof of the king’s house, that he saw from the roof a woman bathing; the woman was very beautiful.


Therefore, do not give your daughters to their sons, neither take their daughters for your sons, and never seek their peace or prosperity, so that you may be strong and eat the good of the land and leave it for an inheritance to your children forever.’


One day the heavenly beings came to present themselves before the Lord, and the accuser also came among them.


“I have made a covenant with my eyes; how, then, could I look upon a virgin?


and you will take wives from among their daughters for your sons, and their daughters who prostitute themselves to their gods will make your sons also prostitute themselves to their gods.


For you are our father, though Abraham does not know us and Israel does not acknowledge us; you, O Lord, are our father; our Redeemer from of old is your name.


Judah has been faithless, and abomination has been committed in Israel and in Jerusalem, for Judah has profaned the sanctuary of the Lord, which he loves, and has married the daughter of a foreign god.


Did God not make them one, flesh with spirit in it? And what does the one desire? Godly offspring. So look to yourselves, and do not let anyone be faithless to the wife of his youth.


A wife is bound as long as her husband lives. But if the husband dies, she is free to marry anyone she wishes, only in the Lord.


and I will be your father, and you shall be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty.”


“You are children of the Lord your God. You must not lacerate yourselves or shave your forelocks for the dead.


They have eyes full of adultery, insatiable for sin. They entice unsteady souls. They have hearts trained in greed. Accursed children!


for all that is in the world—the desire of the flesh, the desire of the eyes, the pride in riches—comes not from the Father but from the world.
