The second he named Ephraim, “For God has made me fruitful in the land of my misfortunes.”


The children of Joseph who were born to him in Egypt were two; all the persons of the house of Jacob who came into Egypt were seventy.


After this Joseph was told, “Your father is ill.” So he took with him his two sons, Manasseh and Ephraim.


He blessed Joseph and said, “The God before whom my ancestors Abraham and Isaac walked, the God who has been my shepherd all my life to this day,


the angel who has redeemed me from all harm, bless the boys, and in them let my name be perpetuated and the name of my ancestors Abraham and Isaac, and let them grow into a multitude on the earth.”


Therefore your two sons, who were born to you in the land of Egypt before I came to you in Egypt, are now mine; Ephraim and Manasseh shall be mine, just as Reuben and Simeon are.


The archers fiercely attacked him; they shot at him and pressed him hard.


Happy is everyone who fears the Lord, who walks in his ways.


Your wife will be like a fruitful vine within your house; your children will be like olive shoots around your table.


The mountains were covered with its shade, the mighty cedars with its branches;


Its strongest stem became a ruler’s scepter; it towered aloft among the clouds; it stood out in its height with its mass of branches.


Although he may flourish among rushes, the east wind shall come, a blast from the Lord, rising from the wilderness, and his fountain shall dry up; his spring shall be parched. It shall strip his treasury of every precious thing.
