No longer shall your name be Abram, but your name shall be Abraham, for I have made you the ancestor of a multitude of nations.


Jacob said, “First sell me your birthright.”


But God came to Laban the Aramean in a dream by night and said to him, “Take heed that you say not a word to Jacob, either good or bad.”


Jacob was left alone, and a man wrestled with him until daybreak.


So he said to him, “What is your name?” And he said, “Jacob.”


There he erected an altar and called it El-Elohe-Israel.


But Esau ran to meet him and embraced him and fell on his neck and kissed him, and they wept.


God said to him, “Your name is Jacob; no longer shall you be called Jacob, but Israel shall be your name.” So he was called Israel.


and sent a message by the prophet Nathan, so he named him Jedidiah because of the Lord.
