Abraham answered, “Let me take it upon myself to speak to my lord, I who am but dust and ashes.


And he said, “O Lord, God of my master Abraham, please grant me success today and show steadfast love to my master Abraham.


and said, “Blessed be the Lord, the God of my master Abraham, who has not forsaken his steadfast love and his faithfulness toward my master. As for me, the Lord has led me on the way to the house of my master’s kin.”


And the Lord stood beside him and said, “I am the Lord, the God of Abraham your father and the God of Isaac; the land on which you lie I will give to you and to your offspring,


Know that I am with you and will keep you wherever you go and will bring you back to this land, for I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.”


Thus the man grew exceedingly rich and had large flocks and male and female slaves and camels and donkeys.


Then the Lord said to Jacob, “Return to the land of your ancestors and to your kindred, and I will be with you.”


and I have oxen, donkeys, flocks, male and female slaves, and I have sent to tell my lord, in order that I may find favor in your sight.’ ”


Then Jacob was greatly afraid and distressed, and he divided the people who were with him and the flocks and herds and camels into two companies,


Then David came to Mahanaim, while Absalom crossed the Jordan with all the men of Israel.


Then King David went in and sat before the Lord and said, “Who am I, O Lord God, and what is my house, that you have brought me thus far?


Yet the righteous hold to their way, and they who have clean hands grow stronger and stronger.


Though your beginning was small, your latter days will be very great.


I say to the Lord, “You are my Lord; I have no good apart from you.”


You have given me the shield of your salvation, and your right hand has supported me; your help has made me great.


May he be enthroned forever before God; appoint steadfast love and faithfulness to watch over him!


Yet you have made them a little lower than God and crowned them with glory and honor.


They go from strength to strength; the God of gods will be seen in Zion.


Steadfast love and faithfulness will meet; righteousness and peace will kiss each other.


But the path of the righteous is like the light of dawn, which shines brighter and brighter until full day.


And I said, “Woe is me! I am lost, for I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips, yet my eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts!”


I will recount the gracious deeds of the Lord, the praiseworthy acts of the Lord, because of all that the Lord has done for us and the great favor to the house of Israel that he has shown them according to his mercy, according to the abundance of his steadfast love.


You will show faithfulness to Jacob and steadfast love to Abraham, as you have sworn to our ancestors from the days of old.


So you also, when you have done all that you were ordered to do, say, ‘We are worthless slaves; we have done only what we ought to have done!’ ”


But when Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus’s knees, saying, “Go away from me, Lord, for I am a sinful man!”


I have been a fool! You forced me to it. Indeed you should have been the ones commending me, for I am not at all inferior to these super-apostles, even though I am nothing.


But remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you power to get wealth, so that he may confirm his covenant that he swore to your ancestors, as he is doing today.


In the same way, you who are younger must be subject to the elders. And all of you must clothe yourselves with humility in your dealings with one another, for “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”
