9 When they came to the place that God had shown him, Abraham built an altar there and laid the wood in order. He bound his son Isaac and laid him on the altar on top of the wood.

Then the Lord appeared to Abram and said, “To your offspring I will give this land.” So he built there an altar to the Lord, who had appeared to him.


From there he moved on to the hill country on the east of Bethel and pitched his tent, with Bethel on the west and Ai on the east, and there he built an altar to the Lord and invoked the name of the Lord.


So Abram moved his tent and came and settled by the oaks of Mamre, which are at Hebron, and there he built an altar to the Lord.


Then Abraham reached out his hand and took the knife to kill his son.


Abraham said, “God himself will provide the lamb for a burnt offering, my son.” And the two of them walked on together.

Next he put the wood in order, cut the bull in pieces, and laid it on the wood. He said, “Fill four jars with water and pour it on the burnt offering and on the wood.”


The Lord is God, and he has given us light. Bind the festal procession with branches, up to the horns of the altar.


They bound him, led him away, and handed him over to Pilate the governor.

and walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.


so Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him.


Was not our ancestor Abraham justified by works when he offered his son Isaac on the altar?


He himself bore our sins in his body on the cross, so that, having died to sins, we might live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed.
