But the word of the Lord came to him, “This man shall not be your heir; no one but your very own issue shall be your heir.”


And God heard the voice of the boy, and the angel of God called to Hagar from heaven and said to her, “What troubles you, Hagar? Do not be afraid, for God has heard the voice of the boy where he is.


After these things God tested Abraham. He said to him, “Abraham!” And he said, “Here I am.”


Now after these things it was told Abraham, “Milcah also has borne children to your brother Nahor:


And that very night the Lord appeared to him and said, “I am the God of your father Abraham; do not be afraid, for I am with you and will bless you and make your offspring numerous for my servant Abraham’s sake.”


yet your father has cheated me and changed my wages ten times, but God did not permit him to harm me.


my God, my rock in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold and my refuge, my savior; you save me from violence.


Then the angel of the Lord said to Elijah, “Go down with him; do not be afraid of him.” So he set out and went down with him to the king


David said further to his son Solomon, “Be strong and of good courage, and act. Do not be afraid or dismayed, for the Lord God, my God, is with you. He will not fail you or forsake you, until all the work for the service of the house of the Lord is finished.


O house of Aaron, trust in the Lord! He is their help and their shield.

People will say, “Surely there is a reward for the righteous; surely there is a God who judges on earth.”


For the Lord God is a sun and shield; he bestows favor and honor. No good thing does the Lord withhold from those who walk uprightly.


Behold our shield, O God; look on the face of your anointed.


he will cover you with his pinions, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness is a shield and defense.


But Moses said to the people, “Do not be afraid, stand firm, and see the deliverance that the Lord will accomplish for you today, for the Egyptians whom you see today you shall never see again.


The wicked earn no real gain, but those who sow righteousness get a true reward.


Every word of God proves true; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him.


Say to those who are of a fearful heart, “Be strong, do not fear! Here is your God. He will come with vengeance, with terrible recompense. He will come and save you.”


See, the Lord God comes with might, and his arm rules for him; his reward is with him and his recompense before him.


do not fear, for I am with you; do not be afraid, for I am your God; I will strengthen you; I will help you; I will uphold you with my victorious right hand.


Do not fear, you worm Jacob, you maggot Israel! I will help you, says the Lord; your Redeemer is the Holy One of Israel.


But now thus says the Lord, he who created you, O Jacob, he who formed you, O Israel: Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name; you are mine.

I, I am he who comforts you; why then are you afraid of a mere mortal who must die, a human being who fades like grass?


But I will save you on that day, says the Lord, and you shall not be handed over to those whom you dread.


“The Lord is my portion,” says my soul, “therefore I will hope in him.”


In the thirtieth year, in the fourth month, on the fifth day of the month, as I was among the exiles by the River Chebar, the heavens were opened, and I saw visions of God.


The spirit lifted me up and brought me in a vision by the spirit of God into Chaldea, to the exiles. Then the vision that I had seen left me.


He said to me, “Mortal, go to the house of Israel and speak my very words to them.


And he said, “Hear my words: When there are prophets among you, I the Lord make myself known to them in visions; I speak to them in dreams.


Then the Lord said to Aaron, “You shall have no allotment in their land, nor shall you have any share among them; I am your share and your possession among the Israelites.

But the angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus who was crucified.


And he said to them, “Why are you afraid, you of little faith?” Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a dead calm.


But the angel said to him, “Do not be afraid, Zechariah, for your prayer has been heard. Your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you will name him John.

but they shall have no inheritance among the other members of the community; the Lord is their inheritance, as he promised them.


Be strong and bold; have no fear or dread of them, because it is the Lord your God who goes with you; he will not fail you or forsake you.”


Long ago God spoke to our ancestors in many and various ways by the prophets,


When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead. But he placed his right hand on me, saying, “Do not be afraid; I am the First and the Last


May the Lord reward you for your deeds, and may you have a full reward from the Lord, the God of Israel, under whose wings you have come for refuge!”


The word of the Lord came to Samuel:


(Formerly in Israel, anyone who went to inquire of God would say, “Come, let us go to the seer,” for the one who is now called a prophet was formerly called a seer.)
