3 Know, then, today that the Lord your God is the one who crosses over before you as a devouring fire; he will defeat them and subdue them before you, so that you may dispossess and destroy them quickly, as the Lord has promised you.

Now the appearance of the glory of the Lord was like a devouring fire on the top of the mountain in the sight of the Israelites.


I have no wrath. If it gives me thorns and briers, I will march to battle against it. I will burn it up.


See, the name of the Lord comes from far away, his anger burning and his burden heavy; his lips are full of indignation, and his tongue is like a devouring fire;

What then are we to say about these things? If God is for us, who is against us?


So do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.

“When you go out to war against your enemies and see horses and chariots, an army larger than your own, do not fear them, for the Lord your God is with you, who brought you up from the land of Egypt.


for it is the Lord your God who goes with you, to fight for you against your enemies, to give you victory.’


For the Lord your God is a devouring fire, a jealous God.


You shall devour all the peoples that the Lord your God is giving over to you, showing them no pity; you shall not serve their gods, for that would be a snare to you.


The Lord your God will clear away these nations before you little by little; you will not be able to make a quick end of them, otherwise the wild animals would become too numerous for you.


“Know, then, that the Lord your God is not giving you this good land to occupy because of your righteousness, for you are a stubborn people.


in a fiery flame, inflicting vengeance on those who do not know God and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus.


for indeed our God is a consuming fire.


And all the towns of those kings and all their kings, Joshua took and struck them with the edge of the sword, utterly destroying them, as Moses the servant of the Lord had commanded.


And the Lord handed them over to Israel, who attacked them and chased them as far as Great Sidon and Misrephoth-maim and eastward as far as the valley of Mizpeh. They struck them down until they had left no one remaining.
