In the ninth year of Hoshea the king of Assyria captured Samaria; he carried the Israelites away to Assyria. He placed them in Halah, on the Habor, the river of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes.


The king of Babylon struck them down and put them to death at Riblah in the land of Hamath. So Judah went into exile out of its land.


Remember the word that you commanded Moses your servant, ‘If you are unfaithful, I will scatter you among the peoples,


You have made us like sheep for slaughter and have scattered us among the nations.


until the Lord sends everyone far away, and vast is the emptiness in the midst of the land.


I will make you serve your enemies in a land that you do not know, for in my anger a fire is kindled that shall burn against you.


Therefore I will hurl you out of this land into a land that neither you nor your ancestors have known, and there you shall serve other gods day and night, for I will show you no favor.


Israel is a hunted sheep driven away by lions. First the king of Assyria devoured it, and now at the end King Nebuchadrezzar of Babylon has gnawed its bones.

they will fall by the edge of the sword and be taken away as captives among all nations, and Jerusalem will be trampled on by the nations, until the times of the nations are fulfilled.


you must not yield to or heed any such persons. Show them no pity or compassion, and do not shield them.


The Lord will bring you and the king whom you set over you to a nation that neither you nor your ancestors have known, where you shall serve other gods, of wood and stone.


They turned and served other gods, worshiping them, gods whom they had not known and whom he had not allotted to them;


“When all these things have happened to you, the blessings and the curses that I have set before you, if you call them to mind among all the nations where the Lord your God has driven you


They sacrificed to demons, not God, to deities they had never known, to new ones recently arrived, whom your ancestors had not feared.


I said, “I will make an end of them and blot out the memory of them from humankind,”


“For ask now about former ages, long before your own, ever since the day that God created human beings on the earth; ask from one end of heaven to the other: Has anything so great as this ever happened, or has its like ever been heard of?
