By your strength you established the mountains; you are girded with might.


So Moses stretched out his hand toward heaven, and there was dense darkness in all the land of Egypt for three days.


It came between the army of Egypt and the army of Israel. And so the cloud was there with the darkness, and it lit up the night; one did not come near the other all night.


Who has measured the waters of the sea in the hollow of his hand and marked off the heavens with a span, enclosed the dust of the earth in a measure and weighed the mountains in scales and the hills in a balance?


I form light and create darkness, I make weal and create woe; I the Lord do all these things.


Our Redeemer—the Lord of hosts is his name— is the Holy One of Israel.


For they call themselves after the holy city and lean on the God of Israel; the Lord of hosts is his name.


They will roar over it on that day, like the roaring of the sea. And if one look to the land— only darkness and distress; and the light grows dark with its clouds.


When he utters his voice, there is a tumult of waters in the heavens, and he makes the mist rise from the ends of the earth. He makes lightning for the rain and brings out the wind from his storehouses.


The portion of Jacob is not like these, for he is the one who formed all things, and Israel is the tribe of his inheritance; the Lord of hosts is his name.


Give glory to the Lord your God before he brings darkness and before your feet stumble on the mountains at twilight; while you look for light, he turns it into gloom and makes it deep darkness.


As I live, says the King, whose name is the Lord of hosts, one is coming like Tabor among the mountains and like Carmel by the sea.

but there is a God in heaven who reveals mysteries, and he has disclosed to King Nebuchadnezzar what will happen at the end of days. Your dream and the visions of your head as you lay in bed were these:


But as for me, this mystery has not been revealed to me because of any wisdom that I have more than any other living being, but in order that the interpretation may be known to the king and that you may understand the thoughts of your mind.


But as for you, return to your God; hold fast to love and justice, and wait continually for your God.


a day of darkness and gloom, a day of clouds and thick darkness! Like blackness spread upon the mountains, a great and powerful army comes; their like has never been from of old, nor will be again after them in ages to come.


Hear and testify against the house of Jacob, says the Lord God, the God of hosts:


therefore I will take you into exile beyond Damascus, says the Lord, whose name is the God of hosts.


The one who made the Pleiades and Orion and turns deep darkness into the morning and darkens the day into night, who calls for the water of the sea and pours it out on the surface of the earth, the Lord is his name,


The Lord God has sworn by himself (says the Lord, the God of hosts): I abhor the pride of Jacob and hate his strongholds, and I will deliver up the city and all that is in it.


On that day, says the Lord God, I will make the sun go down at noon and darken the earth in broad daylight.


who builds his upper chambers in the heavens and founds his vault upon the earth, who calls for the waters of the sea and pours them out upon the surface of the earth— the Lord is his name.


For the Lord is coming out of his place and will come down and tread upon the high places of the earth.


God, the Lord, is my strength; he makes my feet like the feet of a deer and makes me tread upon the heights. To the leader: with stringed instruments.


An Oracle. The word of the Lord concerning Israel: Thus says the Lord, who stretched out the heavens and founded the earth and formed the human spirit within:


But Jesus, perceiving their thoughts, said, “Why do you think evil in your hearts?


and needed no one to testify about anyone, for he himself knew what was in everyone.


The wind blows where it chooses, and you hear the sound of it, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.”


He set him atop the heights of the land and fed him with produce of the field; he nursed him with honey from the crags, with oil from flinty rock,


Happy are you, O Israel! Who is like you, a people saved by the Lord, the shield of your help and the sword of your triumph! Your enemies shall come fawning to you, but you shall tread on their backs.”
