Then the officials said to the king, “This man ought to be put to death because he is discouraging the soldiers who are left in this city and all the people by speaking such words to them. For this man is not seeking the welfare of this people, but their harm.”


But you made the nazirites drink wine and commanded the prophets, saying, “You shall not prophesy.”


Therefore command the tomb to be made secure until the third day; otherwise, his disciples may go and steal him away and tell the people, ‘He has been raised from the dead,’ and the last deception would be worse than the first.”


And their eyes were opened. Then Jesus sternly ordered them, “See that no one knows of this.”


But they will do all these things to you on account of my name, because they do not know him who sent me.


After threatening them again, they let them go, finding no way to punish them because of the people, for all of them praised God for what had happened.


Now when the captain of the temple and the chief priests heard these words, they were perplexed about them, wondering what might be going on.


saying, “We gave you strict orders not to teach in this name, yet here you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching, and you are determined to bring this man’s blood on us.”


And, masters, do the same to them. Stop threatening them, for you know that both of you have the same Lord in heaven, and with him there is no partiality.


For the word of the Lord has sounded forth from you not only in Macedonia and Achaia but in every place your faith in God has become known, so that we have no need to speak about it.


When he was abused, he did not return abuse; when he suffered, he did not threaten, but he entrusted himself to the one who judges justly.
