He drank some of the wine and became drunk, and he lay uncovered in his tent.


David invited him to eat and drink in his presence and made him drunk, and in the evening he went out to lie on his couch with the servants of his lord, but he did not go down to his house.


In the letter he wrote, “Set Uriah in the forefront of the hardest fighting, and then draw back from him, so that he may be struck down and die.”


Now, therefore, the sword shall never depart from your house, for you have despised me and have taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be your wife.


But Absalom pressed him until he let Amnon and all the king’s sons go with him. Absalom made a feast like a king’s feast.


Your servant had two sons, and they fought with one another in the field; there was no one to part them, and one struck the other and killed him.


They went out at noon, while Ben-hadad was drinking himself drunk in the booths, he and the thirty-two kings allied with him.


On the seventh day, when the king was merry with wine, he commanded Mehuman, Biztha, Harbona, Bigtha and Abagtha, Zethar and Carkas, the seven eunuchs who attended him,


and wine to gladden the human heart, oil to make the face shine and bread to strengthen the human heart.

Feasts are made for laughter, wine gladdens life, and money meets every need.


Go, eat your bread with enjoyment and drink your wine with a merry heart, for God has long ago approved what you do.

When the man with his concubine and his servant got up to leave, his father-in-law, the young woman’s father, said to him, “Look, the day has worn on until it is almost evening. Spend the night. See, the day has drawn to a close. Spend the night here and enjoy yourself. Tomorrow you can get up early in the morning for your journey and go home.”


When Boaz had eaten and drunk and was in a contented mood, he went to lie down at the end of the heap of grain. Then she came stealthily and uncovered his feet and lay down.


Saul commanded his servants, “Speak to David in private and say, ‘See, the king is delighted with you, and all his servants love you; now then, become the king’s son-in-law.’ ”


But Saul swore to her by the Lord, “As the Lord lives, no punishment shall come upon you for this thing.”


The king said to her, “Have no fear; what do you see?” The woman said to Saul, “I see a divine being coming up out of the ground.”
