In the spring of the year, the time when kings go out to battle, David sent Joab with his officers and all Israel with him; they ravaged the Ammonites and besieged Rabbah. But David remained at Jerusalem.


David said to the messenger, “Thus you shall say to Joab, ‘Do not let this matter trouble you, for the sword devours now one and now another; press your attack on the city and overthrow it.’ And encourage him.”


and sent a message by the prophet Nathan, so he named him Jedidiah because of the Lord.


Joab sent messengers to David and said, “I have fought against Rabbah; moreover, I have taken the water city.


When David came to Mahanaim, Shobi son of Nahash from Rabbah of the Ammonites, and Machir son of Ammiel from Lo-debar, and Barzillai the Gileadite from Rogelim


Who will bring me to the fortified city? Who will lead me to Edom?


I will make Rabbah a pasture for camels and Ammon a fold for flocks. Then you shall know that I am the Lord.


(Now only King Og of Bashan was left of the remnant of the Rephaim. In fact, his bed, an iron bed, can still be seen in Rabbah of the Ammonites. By the common cubit it is nine cubits long and four cubits wide.)
