But when the Arameans saw that they had been defeated by Israel, they gathered themselves together.


In the spring of the year, the time when kings go out to battle, David sent Joab with his officers and all Israel with him; they ravaged the Ammonites and besieged Rabbah. But David remained at Jerusalem.


David said to Abishai, “Now Sheba son of Bichri will do us more harm than Absalom; take your lord’s servants and pursue him, or he will find fortified cities for himself and escape from us.”


I pursued my enemies and destroyed them and did not turn back until they were consumed.


Now Abishai son of Zeruiah, the brother of Joab, was chief of the Thirty. With his spear he fought against three hundred men and killed them and won a name beside the Three.


from Edom, Moab, the Ammonites, the Philistines, Amalek, and from the spoil of the king of Zobah, Hadadezer son of Rehob.


Abishai son of Zeruiah killed eighteen thousand Edomites in the Valley of Salt.
