27 When she came to the man of God at the mountain, she caught hold of his feet. Gehazi approached to push her away, but the man of God said, “Let her alone, for she is in bitter distress; the Lord has hidden it from me and has not told me.”

So she set out and came to the man of God at Mount Carmel. When the man of God saw her coming, he said to Gehazi his servant, “Look, there is the Shunammite woman;


run at once to meet her and say to her: Are you all right? Is your husband all right? Is the child all right?” She answered, “It is all right.”


Then one of his officers said, “No one, my lord king. It is Elisha, the prophet in Israel, who tells the king of Israel the words that you speak in your bedchamber.”


“I loathe my life; I will give free utterance to my complaint; I will speak in the bitterness of my soul.


The heart knows its own bitterness, and no stranger shares its joy.


The human spirit will endure sickness, but a broken spirit—who can bear?


Surely the Lord God does nothing without revealing his secret to his servants the prophets.


But he did not answer her at all. And his disciples came and urged him, saying, “Send her away, for she keeps shouting after us.”


The crowd sternly ordered them to be quiet, but they shouted even more loudly, “Have mercy on us, Lord, Son of David!”


Suddenly Jesus met them and said, “Greetings!” And they came to him, took hold of his feet, and worshiped him.


People were bringing children to him in order that he might touch them, and the disciples spoke sternly to them.


But Jesus said, “Let her alone; why do you trouble her? She has performed a good service for me.


She stood behind him at his feet, weeping, and began to bathe his feet with her tears and to dry them with her hair, kissing his feet and anointing them with the ointment.


I do not call you servants any longer, because the servant does not know what the master is doing, but I have called you friends, because I have made known to you everything that I have heard from my Father.


Just then his disciples came. They were astonished that he was speaking with a woman, but no one said, “What do you want?” or, “Why are you speaking with her?”


She was deeply distressed and prayed to the Lord and wept bitterly.
