Now Isaac had come from Beer-lahai-roi and was settled in the Negeb.


After the death of Saul, when David had returned from defeating the Amalekites, David remained two days in Ziklag.


On the third day, a man came from Saul’s camp with his clothes torn and dirt on his head. When he came to David, he fell to the ground and did obeisance.


And he said to me, ‘Who are you?’ I answered him, ‘I am an Amalekite.’


All his officials passed by him, and all the Cherethites, and all the Pelethites, and all the six hundred Gittites who had followed him from Gath passed on before the king.


They helped David against the band of raiders, for they were all warriors and commanders in the army.


Indeed, from day to day people kept coming to David to help him until there was a great army, like an army of God.


they took all their men and went to fight against Ishmael son of Nethaniah. They came upon him at the great pool that is in Gibeon.


And the Lord said to Joshua, “Do not be afraid of them, for tomorrow at this time I will hand over all of them, slain, to Israel; you shall hamstring their horses and burn their chariots with fire.”

Saul defeated the Amalekites, from Havilah as far as Shur, which is east of Egypt.


He took King Agag of the Amalekites alive but utterly destroyed all the people with the edge of the sword.


So that day Achish gave him Ziklag; therefore Ziklag has belonged to the kings of Judah to this day.


Now then, rise early in the morning, you and the servants of your lord who came with you, and go to the place that I appointed for you. As for the evil report, do not take it to heart, for you have done well before me. Start early in the morning, and leave as soon as you have light.”


So David set out with his men early in the morning, to return to the land of the Philistines. But the Philistines went up to Jezreel.


But the commanders of the Philistines were angry with him, and the commanders of the Philistines said to him, “Send the man back, so that he may return to the place that you have assigned to him; he shall not go down with us to battle, or else he may become an adversary to us in the battle. For how could this fellow reconcile himself to his lord? Would it not be with the heads of the men here?


We had made a raid on the Negeb of the Cherethites and on that which belongs to Judah and on the Negeb of Caleb, and we burned Ziklag down.”
