He said, “The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my deliverer,


“Do you know when the mountain goats give birth? Do you observe the calving of the deer?


The high mountains are for the wild goats; the rocks are a refuge for the coneys.


When they are given over to those who shall condemn them, then they shall learn that my words were pleasant.


The wicked watch for the righteous and seek to kill them.


Those who seek my life lay their snares; those who seek to hurt me speak of ruin and meditate on treachery all day long.


Saul chose three thousand out of Israel; two thousand were with Saul in Michmash and the hill country of Bethel, and a thousand were with Jonathan in Gibeah of Benjamin; the rest of the people he sent home to their tents.


So Saul stopped pursuing David and went against the Philistines; therefore that place was called the Rock of Escape.


So Saul rose and went down to the wilderness of Ziph, with three thousand chosen men of Israel, to seek David in the wilderness of Ziph.
