So his brothers were jealous of him, but his father kept the matter in mind.


His brothers said to him, “Are you indeed to reign over us? Are you indeed to have dominion over us?” So they hated him even more because of his dreams and his words.


King Solomon answered his mother, “And why do you ask Abishag the Shunammite for Adonijah? Ask for him the kingdom as well! For he is my elder brother, and the priest Abiathar and Joab son of Zeruiah are on his side!”


When Haman saw that Mordecai did not bow down or do obeisance to him, Haman was infuriated.


By insolence the empty-headed person makes strife, but wisdom is with those who take advice.


Wrath is cruel, anger is overwhelming, but who is able to stand before jealousy?


Then I saw that all toil and all skill in work come from one person’s envy of another. This also is vanity and a chasing after wind.


Now when the people complained in the hearing of the Lord about their misfortunes, the Lord heard it, and his anger was kindled. Then the fire of the Lord burned against them and consumed some outlying parts of the camp.


Then Balaam said to the angel of the Lord, “I have sinned, for I did not know that you were standing in the road to oppose me. Now therefore, if it is displeasing to you, I will return home.”


Or do you suppose that the scripture speaks to no purpose? Does the spirit that God caused to dwell in us desire envy?


but now your kingdom will not continue; the Lord has sought out a man after his own heart, and the Lord has appointed him to be ruler over his people because you have not kept what the Lord commanded you.”


And Samuel said to him, “The Lord has torn the kingdom of Israel from you this very day and has given it to a neighbor of yours who is better than you.


Then Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the presence of his brothers, and the spirit of the Lord came mightily upon David from that day forward. Samuel then set out and went to Ramah.


So Saul eyed David from that day on.


Saul spoke with his son Jonathan and with all his servants about killing David. But Saul’s son Jonathan took great delight in David.


For as long as the son of Jesse lives upon the earth, neither you nor your kingdom shall be established. Now send and bring him to me, for he shall surely die.”
