And as if it had been a light thing for him to walk in the sins of Jeroboam son of Nebat, he took as his wife Jezebel daughter of King Ethbaal of the Sidonians and went and served Baal and worshiped him.


He erected an altar for Baal in the house of Baal that he built in Samaria.


(Indeed, there was no one like Ahab, who sold himself to do what was evil in the sight of the Lord, urged on by his wife Jezebel.


He acted most abominably in going after idols, as the Amorites had done, whom the Lord had driven out before the Israelites.)

He went out to meet Asa and said to him, “Hear me, Asa, and all Judah and Benjamin: The Lord is with you while you are with him. If you seek him, he will be found by you, but if you abandon him, he will abandon you.


For the Lord brought Judah low because of King Ahaz of Israel, for he had behaved without restraint in Judah and had been faithless to the Lord.


Whoever is steadfast in righteousness will live, but whoever pursues evil will die.


Misfortune pursues sinners, but prosperity rewards the righteous.


Those who forsake the law praise the wicked, but those who keep the law struggle against them.


The iniquities of the wicked ensnare them, and they are caught in the coils of their sin.


Woe to the guilty! How unfortunate they are, for what their hands have done shall be done to them.


for my people have committed two evils: they have forsaken me, the fountain of living water, and dug out cisterns for themselves, cracked cisterns that can hold no water.


Your wickedness will punish you, and your faithlessness will convict you. Know and see that it is evil and bitter for you to forsake the Lord your God; the fear of me is not in you, says the Lord God of hosts.
