On the third day, a man came from Saul’s camp with his clothes torn and dirt on his head. When he came to David, he fell to the ground and did obeisance.


The king said, “Let him go to his own house; he is not to come into my presence.” So Absalom went to his own house and did not come into the king’s presence.


So Absalom lived two full years in Jerusalem without coming into the king’s presence.


Then Joab went to the king and told him, and he summoned Absalom. So he came to the king and prostrated himself with his face to the ground before the king, and the king kissed Absalom.


Bathsheba bowed and did obeisance to the king, and the king said, “What do you wish?”


Then Bathsheba bowed with her face to the ground and did obeisance to the king and said, “May my lord King David live forever!”


So Solomon responded, “If he proves to be a worthy man, not one of his hairs shall fall to the ground, but if wickedness is found in him, he shall die.”


When David’s time to die drew near, he charged his son Solomon, saying:


Then the king sent and summoned Shimei and said to him, “Build yourself a house in Jerusalem and live there, and do not go out from there to any place whatever.


My child, fear the Lord and the king, and do not disobey either of them,
