He looked up and saw three men standing near him. When he saw them, he ran from the tent entrance to meet them and bowed down to the ground.


He himself went on ahead of them, bowing himself to the ground seven times, until he came near his brother.


When he looked behind him, he saw me and called to me. I answered, ‘Here, sir.’


Then the king said to Ziba, “All that belonged to Mephibosheth is now yours.” Ziba said, “I do obeisance; let me find favor in your sight, my lord the king.”


But the king spared Mephibosheth, the son of Saul’s son Jonathan, because of the oath of the Lord that was between them, between David and Jonathan son of Saul.


Saul’s son Jonathan had a son who was crippled in his feet. He was five years old when the news about Saul and Jonathan came from Jezreel. His nurse picked him up and fled, and in her haste to flee it happened that he fell and became lame. His name was Mephibosheth.


Then King David sent and brought him from the house of Machir son of Ammiel, at Lo-debar.

As soon as the boy had gone, David rose from beside the stone heap and prostrated himself with his face to the ground. He bowed three times, and they kissed each other and wept with each other; David wept the more.


When Abigail saw David, she hurried and dismounted from the donkey and fell before David on her face, bowing to the ground.
