A Paralytic Healed

1 Gettinginto a boat,Jesus crossed over[the sea] and cameto His owncity.

2 And they broughtto Him a paralyticlyingon a bed.Seeingtheir faith,Jesussaidto the paralytic,"Take courage,son;your sinsare forgiven."

3 And someof the scribessaidto themselves,"This[fellow] blasphemes."

4 And Jesusknowingtheir thoughtssaid,"Whyare you thinkingevilin your hearts?

5 "Whichis easier,to say,Your sinsare forgiven,'orto say,'Getup, and walk'?

6 "But sothat you may knowthat the Sonof Manhasauthorityon earthto forgivesins"--thenHe saidto the paralytic,"Getup, pickup your bedand gohome."

7 And he gotup and wenthome.

8 But when the crowdssaw[this], they were awestruck,and glorifiedGod,who had givensuchauthorityto men.


Matthew Called

9 As Jesuswenton from there,He sawa mancalledMatthew,sittingin the tax collector's booth;and He saidto him, "FollowMe!" And he gotup and followedHim.

10 Thenit happenedthat as Jesuswas reclining[at the table] in the house,behold,manytax collectorsand sinnerscameand were diningwith Jesusand His disciples.

11 When the Phariseessaw[this], they saidto His disciples,"Whyis your Teachereatingwith the tax collectorsand sinners?"

12 But when Jesus heard[this], He said,"[It is] not thosewho are healthywho needa physician,but thosewho are sick.

13 "But goand learnwhatthis means:I DESIRECOMPASSION,AND NOT SACRIFICE,'for I did not cometo callthe righteous,but sinners."


The Question about Fasting

14 Thenthe disciplesof Johncameto Him, asking,"Whydo we and the Phariseesfast,but Your disciplesdo not fast?"

15 And Jesussaidto them, "The attendantsof the bridegroomcannotmournas longas the bridegroomis with them, can they? But the dayswill comewhenthe bridegroomis taken awayfrom them, and thenthey will fast.

16 "But no oneputsa patchof unshrunkclothon an oldgarment;for the patchpulls awayfrom the garment,and a worsetearresults.

17 "Nordo [people] putnewwineinto oldwineskins;otherwisethe wineskinsburst,and the winepoursout and the wineskinsare ruined;but they putnewwineinto freshwineskins,and bothare preserved."


Miracles of Healing

18 While He was sayingthese thingsto them, a [synagogue] officialcameand bowed down beforeHim, and said,"My daughterhas justdied;but comeand layYour handon her, and she will live."

19 Jesusgotup and [began] to followhim, and [so did] His disciples.

20 And a womanwho had been suffering from a hemorrhagefor twelveyears,cameup behindHim and touchedthe fringeof His cloak;

21 for she was sayingto herself,"IfI onlytouchHis garment,I will get well."

22 But Jesusturningand seeingher said,"Daughter,take courage;your faithhas madeyou well."At oncethe womanwas made well.

23 When Jesuscameinto the official'shouse,and sawthe flute-playersand the crowdin noisy disorder,

24 He said,"Leave;for the girlhas not died,but is asleep."And they [began] laughingat Him.

25 But whenthe crowdhad been sentout, He enteredand tookher by the hand,and the girlgotup.

26 Thisnewsspreadthroughoutallthat land.

27 As Jesuswenton from there,twoblind menfollowedHim, cryingout, "Have mercyon us, Sonof David!"

28 WhenHe enteredthe house,the blind mencameup to Him, and Jesussaidto them, "Do you believethat I am ableto dothis?"They saidto Him, "Yes,Lord."

29 ThenHe touchedtheir eyes,saying,"It shall be doneto you accordingto your faith."

30 And their eyeswere opened.And Jesussternly warnedthem: "Seethat no oneknows[about this]!"

31 But they wentout and spread the newsabout Him throughoutallthat land.

32 As they were goingout, a mute,demon-possessedmanwas broughtto Him.

33 After the demonwas castout, the mute manspoke;and the crowdswere amazed,[and were] saying,"Nothinglike thishas everbeen seenin Israel."

34 But the Phariseeswere saying,"He castsout the demonsby the rulerof the demons."

35 Jesuswas going throughallthe citiesand villages,teachingin their synagoguesand proclaimingthe gospelof the kingdom,and healingeverykindof diseaseand every kindof sickness.

36 Seeingthe people,He felt compassionfor them, becausethey were distressedand dispiritedlikesheepwithouta shepherd.

37 ThenHe saidto His disciples,"The harvestis plentiful,but the workersare few.

38 "Thereforebeseechthe Lordof the harvestto sendout workersinto His harvest."
