Eliyah was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months.
And Elijah the Tishbite, who was of the inhabitants of Gilead, said unto Ahab, As Yahweh Elohim of Israel liveth, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, but according to my word.
And it came to pass after many days, that the word of Yahweh came to Elijah in the third year, saying, Go, show thyself unto Ahab; and I will send rain upon the earth.
But I tell you of a truth, many widows were in Israel in the days of Eliyah, when the heaven was shut up three years and six months, when great famine was throughout all the land;
And saying, Sirs, why do ye these things? We also are men of like passions with you, and preach unto you that ye should turn from these vanities unto the living Elohim, which made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all things that are therein:
Elohim hath not cast away his people which he foreknew. Know ye not what the scripture saith of Eliyah? how he maketh intercession to Elohim against Israel, saying,
These have power to shut heaven, that it rain not in the days of their prophecy: and have power over waters to turn them to blood, and to smite the earth with all plagues, as often as they will.
