Deuteronomy 8:2

Word of Yahweh

And thou shalt remember all the way which Yahweh thy Elohim led thee these forty years in the wilderness, to humble thee, and to prove thee, to know what was in thine heart, whether thou wouldest keep his commandments, or no.

And it came to pass after these things, that Elohim did tempt Abraham, and said unto him, Abraham: and he said, Behold, here I am.

Howbeit in the business of the ambassadors of the princes of Babylon, who sent unto him to enquire of the wonder that was done in the land, Elohim left him, to try him, that he might know all that was in his heart.

And when he was in affliction, he besought Yahweh his Elohim, and humbled himself greatly before the Elohim of his fathers,

His prayer also, and how Elohim was intreated of him, and all his sin, and his trespass, and the places wherein he built high places, and set up groves and graven images, before he was humbled: behold, they are written among the sayings of the seers.

Yet thou in thy manifold mercies forsookest them not in the wilderness: the pillar of the cloud departed not from them by day, to lead them in the way; neither the pillar of fire by night, to show them light, and the way wherein they should go.

That he may withdraw man from his purpose, and hide pride from man.

Bless Yahweh, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits:

Our fathers understood not thy wonders in Egypt; they remembered not the multitude of thy mercies; but provoked him at the sea, even at the Red sea.

To him which led his people through the wilderness: for his mercy endureth for ever.

I will remember the works of Yah: surely I will remember thy wonders of old.

Thou calledst in trouble, and I delivered thee; I answered thee in the secret place of thunder: I proved thee at the waters of Meribah. Selah.

And he cried unto Yahweh; and Yahweh showed him a tree, which when he had cast into the waters, the waters were made sweet: there he made for them a statute and an ordinance, and there he proved them,

And the children of Israel did eat manna forty years, until they came to a land inhabited; they did eat manna, until they came unto the borders of the land of Canaan.

Then said Yahweh unto Moses, Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you; and the people shall go out and gather a certain rate every day, that I may prove them, whether they will walk in my law, or no.

And Moses said unto the people, Fear not: for Elohim is come to prove you, and that his fear may be before your faces, that ye sin not.

The fining pot is for silver, and the furnace for gold: but Yahweh trieth the hearts.

And the loftiness of man shall be bowed down, and the haughtiness of men shall be made low: and Yahweh alone shall be exalted in that day.

Neither said they, Where is Yahweh that brought us up out of the land of Egypt, that led us through the wilderness, through a land of deserts and of pits, through a land of drought, and of the shadow of death, through a land that no man passed through, and where no man dwelt?

I am Yahweh your Elohim; walk in my statutes, and keep my judgments, and do them;

Also I brought you up from the land of Egypt, and led you forty years through the wilderness, to possess the land of the Amorite.

And your children shall wander in the wilderness forty years, and bear your whoredoms, until your carcases be wasted in the wilderness.

I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.

And needed not that any should testify of man: for he knew what was in man.

And it came to pass in the fortieth year, in the eleventh month, on the first day of the month, that Moses spake unto the children of Israel, according unto all that Yahweh had given him in commandment unto them;

Who went in the way before you, to search you out a place to pitch your tents in, in fire by night, to show you by what way ye should go, and in a cloud by day.

Thou shalt not hearken unto the words of that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams: for Yahweh your Elohim proveth you, to know whether ye love Yahweh your Elohim with all your heart and with all your soul.

For Yahweh thy Elohim hath blessed thee in all the works of thy hand: he knoweth thy walking through this great wilderness: these forty years Yahweh thy Elohim hath been with thee; thou hast lacked nothing.

And I have led you forty years in the wilderness: your clothes are not waxen old upon you, and thy shoe is not waxen old upon thy foot.

Remember the days of old, consider the years of many generations: ask thy father, and he will show thee; thy elders, and they will tell thee.

Thou shalt not be afraid of them: but shalt well remember what Yahweh thy Elohim did unto Pharaoh, and unto all Egypt;

Who fed thee in the wilderness with manna, which thy fathers knew not, that he might humble thee, and that he might prove thee, to do thee good at thy latter end;

Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.

Humble yourselves in the sight of Yahweh, and he shall lift you up.

But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, Elohim resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.

That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and dignity at the appearing of Yahshua the Messiah:

And I will kill her children with death; and all the assemblies shall know that I am he which searcheth the reins and hearts: and I will give unto every one of you according to your works.

That through them I may prove Israel, whether they will keep the way of Yahweh to walk therein, as their fathers did keep it, or not.

And they were to prove Israel by them, to know whether they would hearken unto the commandments of Yahweh, which he commanded their fathers by the hand of Moses.
