And David sent messengers unto the men of Jabeshgilead, and said unto them, Blessed be ye of Yahweh, that ye have showed this kindness unto your master, even unto Saul, and have buried him.
Whereas thou camest but yesterday, should I this day make thee go up and down with us? seeing I go whither I may, return thou, and take back thy brethren: mercy and truth be with thee.
And David went and took the bones of Saul and the bones of Jonathan his son from the men of Jabeshgilead, which had stolen them from the street of Bethshan, where the Philistines had hanged them, when the Philistines had slain Saul in Gilboa:
And the men answered her, Our life for yours, if ye utter not this our business. And it shall be, when Yahweh hath given us the land, that we will deal kindly and truly with thee.
And they said, What one is there of the tribes of Israel that came not up to Mizpeh to Yahweh? And, behold, there came none to the camp from Jabeshgilead to the assembly.
And Naomi said unto her two daughters in law, Go, return each to her mother's house: Yahweh deal kindly with you, as ye have dealt with the dead, and with me.
And Naomi said unto her daughter in law, Blessed be he of Yahweh, who hath not left off his kindness to the living and to the dead. And Naomi said unto her, The man is near of kin unto us, one of our next kinsmen.
And he said, Blessed be thou of Yahweh, my daughter: for thou hast showed more kindness in the latter end than at the beginning, inasmuch as thou followedst not young men, whether poor or rich.
Then Nahash the Ammonite came up, and encamped against Jabeshgilead: and all the men of Jabesh said unto Nahash, Make a covenant with us, and we will serve thee.
And they said unto the messengers that came, Thus shall ye say unto the men of Jabeshgilead, To morrow, by that time the sun be hot, ye shall have help. And the messengers came and showed it to the men of Jabesh; and they were glad.
