Prepare before me a path filled with your promises, and don’t allow even one sin to have dominion over me.

Help me turn my eyes away from illusions so that I pursue only that which is true; drench my soul with life as I walk in your paths.

Evil surrounds me; problems greater than I can solve come one after another. Without you, I know I can’t make it. My sins are so many! I’m so ashamed to lift my face to you. For my guilt grabs me and stings my soul until I am weakened and spent.

Though we are overcome by our many sins, your sacrifice covers over them all.

From the moment of his baptism, Jesus overflowed with the Holy Spirit. He was taken by the Spirit from the Jordan into the wilderness of Judea to experience for forty days the ordeal of testing by the accuser. He ate no food during this time and ended his forty-day fast very hungry.

“I speak eternal truth,” Jesus said. “When you sin you are not free. You’ve become a slave in bondage to your sin.

Sin is a dethroned monarch; so you must no longer give it an opportunity to rule over your life, controlling how you live and compelling you to obey its desires and cravings.

Remember this: sin will not conquer you, for God already has! You are not governed by law but governed by the reign of the grace of God.

But I discern another power operating in my humanity, waging a war against the moral principles of my conscience and bringing me into captivity as a prisoner to the “law” of sin—this unwelcome intruder in my humanity.

I give all my thanks to God, for his mighty power has finally provided a way out through our Lord Jesus, the Anointed One! So if left to myself, the flesh is aligned with the law of sin, but now my renewed mind is fixed on and submitted to God’s righteous principles.

For the “law” of the Spirit of life flowing through the anointing of Jesus has liberated us from the “law” of sin and death.

This is why he had to be a man and take hold of our humanity in every way. He made us his brothers and sisters and became our merciful and faithful King-Priest before God; as the One who removed our sins to make us one with him.

He understands humanity, for as a man, our magnificent King-Priest was tempted in every way just as we are, and conquered sin.

They promise others freedom, yet they themselves are slaves to corruption, for people are slaves to whatever overcomes them.
