So for forty long years I was grieved and disgusted by them. I described them as wicked wanderers whose hearts would not follow my ways or keep my words.

And Yahweh was saddened that he had made humanity, and his heart was filled with pain.

We cross the threshold of true knowledge when we live in obedient devotion to God. Stubborn know-it-alls will never stop to do this, for they scorn true wisdom and knowledge.

Yahweh, why do you allow us to wander from your ways and harden our hearts to be so stubborn that we do not obey you? Please come back to us, for the sake of those who serve you, for the sake of your people, the tribes that are your inheritance.

Then Yahweh spoke to me concerning these people: “They love to go astray, and they find such pleasure in their wandering. Therefore, I no longer find pleasure in them. Now I will remember all the evil they have done and punish their sins.”

Jeremiah, you live surrounded by oppression, deceit heaped upon deceit, and the people refuse to intimately know me,” says Yahweh.

For nearly forty years, he nourished them in the wilderness.

This man brought the people out from their Egyptian bondage with many astonishing wonders and miracle signs—miracles in Egypt, miracles at the Red Sea, and miracles during their forty-year journey through the wilderness.

And because they thought it was worthless to embrace the true knowledge of God, God gave them over to a worthless mind-set, to break all rules of proper conduct.

The Holy Spirit of God has sealed you in Jesus Christ until you experience your full salvation. So never grieve the Spirit of God or take for granted his holy influence in your life.

They grieved God for forty years by sinning in their unbelief, until they dropped dead in the desert.
