Lord, come quickly and answer me, for my depression deepens and I’m about to give up. Don’t leave me now or I’ll die!

I’m pleading with you, Yahweh, help me! Don’t close your ears to my cry, for you’re my defender. If you continue to remain aloof and refuse to answer me, I might as well give up and die.

“What would you gain in my death, if I were to go down to the depths of darkness? Will a grave sing your song? How could death’s dust declare your faithfulness?”

I am totally forgotten, buried away like a dead man, discarded like a broken dish thrown in the trash.

He was despised and rejected by men, a man of deep sorrows who was no stranger to suffering and grief. We hid our faces from him in disgust and considered him a nobody, not worthy of respect.

He has given me my fill of bitterness and made me drunk with wormwood.

then I will fling you down to the world of the dead to join the people of long ago. I will make you dwell deep in the underworld, in the abyss. And like the ruins of long ago, you will sink with them into oblivion. I will make sure that no one will ever live in you again, nor will you take your place in the land of the living.

For when the time was right, the Anointed One came and died to demonstrate his love for sinners who were entirely helpless, weak, and powerless to save themselves.

It felt like we had a death sentence written upon our hearts, and we still feel it to this day. It has taught us to lose all faith in ourselves and to place all of our trust in the God who raises the dead.

For although he was crucified as a “weakling,” now he lives robed with God’s power. And we also are “weak ones” in our co-crucifixion with him, but now we live in God’s triumphant power together with him, which is demonstrated on your behalf.
