The Passion Translation

Jesus knew that his mission was accomplished, and to fulfill the Scripture, Jesus said: “I am thirsty.”

I’m so thirsty and parched. My tongue sticks to the roof of my mouth. And now you lay me in the dust of death.

I was hungry and they gave me bitter food. I was thirsty and they offered me vinegar.

But first I must be immersed into the baptism of God’s judgment, and I am consumed with passion as I await its fulfillment.

Jesus took the Twelve aside and told them in private, “We are going to Jerusalem so that everything prophesied about the Son of Man will be fulfilled.

For the prophetic Scripture about me ‘He will be accused of being a criminal’ will now come to pass. All that was prophesied of me will be fulfilled.”

Jesus knew that the night before Passover would be his last night on earth before leaving this world to return to the Father’s side. All throughout his time with his disciples, Jesus had demonstrated a deep and tender love for them. And now he longed to show them the full measure of his love.

I have glorified you on the earth by faithfully doing everything you’ve told me to do.

Jesus, knowing full well what was about to happen, went out to the garden entrance to meet them. Stepping forward, he asked, “Who are you looking for?”

So the soldiers said to each other, “Don’t tear it—let’s throw dice to see who gets it!” The soldiers did all of this not knowing they fulfilled the Scripture that says, “They divided my garments among them and gambled for my clothing.”

When he had sipped the sour wine, he said, “It is finished, my bride!” Then he bowed his head and surrendered his spirit to God.

For all these things happened to fulfill the prophecies of the Scriptures: “Not one of his bones will be broken,”

To clarify, Jesus spoke up and said, “My food is to do the will of him who sent me and bring it to completion.”

And they did to him all that was prophesied they would do. “Then they took him down from the cross and laid him in a tomb.
