And so, I remained confined in the palace guardhouse until the tragic day Jerusalem was captured.

So they took me and put me into the muddy cistern of the king’s son Malchiah in the palace courtyard. There was little water in the cistern, only mud. They lowered me down with ropes, and I sank down deep into the mud.

Lord, like a lawyer you contended for my cause; you liberated my life, my Redeemer.

The governor said, “I will give you a full hearing when your accusers arrive here also.” Then he ordered that Paul be kept under guard in Herod’s palace.

Two years later, Felix was succeeded by Porcius Festus. Before he left office he decided to leave Paul in prison as a political favor to the Jews.

When we finally entered Rome, Paul was turned over to the authorities and was allowed to live where he pleased, with one soldier assigned to guard him.

Paul lived two more years in Rome, in his own rented quarters, welcoming all who came to visit.
