Then Jacob became angry and complained to Laban, “What have I done wrong? What sin have I committed that you would hotly pursue me as if you were chasing a criminal?

The one who returns evil for good can expect to be treated the same way for the rest of his life.

It’s horrible to persecute a holy lover of God or to strike an honorable man for his integrity!

“Did King Hezekiah and the people of Judah sentence Micah to death for prophesying this? Did not the king rather fear Yahweh, humble himself, and plead earnestly with him so that he relented of the disaster that he had decreed against them? Do we really want to bring a disaster upon ourselves with such a crime?”

“My God sent his angel, who sealed the mouths of the lions. I am unharmed and without a scratch. For I have been found innocent before my God and before you, too, O king. I have committed no wrong.”

But Jesus said, “My Father has empowered me to work many miracles and acts of mercy among you. So which one of them do you want to stone me for?”

Paul fixed his eyes on the members of the council and said, “My brothers, up to this day I have lived my life before God with a perfectly clear conscience.”

That’s why I seek with all my heart to have a clean conscience toward God and toward others.

If I have committed a crime worthy of death, I won’t seek to escape the death penalty. But if none of their charges are true, no one has the right to hand me over to them. I appeal to Caesar!”

Yet upon investigation I couldn’t find one thing that he has done to deserve the death penalty. When he appealed to His Majesty the emperor, I determined to send him.

In his defense, Paul said by the Holy Spirit, “I have done nothing wrong. I’ve committed no offense against Jewish law, or against the temple, or against Caesar.”

As they were leaving the chamber, they commented to one another, “This man has done nothing that deserves death or even imprisonment.”

Have I really become your enemy because I tell you the truth?
