The Passion Translation

The land was scorched because of the anger of the Lord Yahweh, Commander of Angel Armies. The people themselves became fuel for the fire, and no one showed compassion toward another.

The “powerful elite” will become like kindling and their evil deeds like sparks—both will burn together and no one will be able to put out the fire.

I am the one who has sent him against a godless nation and ordered him to attack a people who anger me. I sent him to take the spoil and seize the plunder and to trample them down like dust in the street.

Therefore, I will make the heavens shudder and the earth shake from its foundation because of the wrath of the Lord, Commander of Angel Armies, in the day of his fierce anger.

They will slaughter the young men, and show no pity on infants nor compassion on children.”

Behold! The day of the Lord is coming with pitiless fury and fierce anger. The land will be made desolate, destroying the sinners who inhabit it.

Therefore a curse devours the earth; its people suffer under their guilt, causing earth’s inhabitants to dwindle, and their number is reduced to so few.

Lord Yahweh, you lift your mighty hand, but they do not see it. Let them witness how much you love your people and be ashamed. Let the fire reserved for your enemies consume them.

Everyone will take advantage of everyone else, and neighbor will struggle against neighbor. The youth will not respect their elders, and the dishonorable will sneer at those worthy of honor.

Sinners in Zion are afraid, and the godless are gripped with panic, saying, ‘Who can dwell with such an all-consuming fire? Who can live in the presence of the never-ending flame?’

And the Lord has washed away the filth of the daughters of Zion and cleansed the bloodstains of Jerusalem by a Spirit of justice and by a Spirit of burning.

So he poured out the heat of his anger and they suffered the fury of war. His anger enveloped them in flames, but they still did not understand— consumed by fire yet they did not take it to heart.

Therefore, just as tongues of fire lick up the straw and dry grass, they will be destroyed, just as a plant with decaying roots and blossoms dries up like dust and is blown away in the wind. For they said, “No!” to the teachings of Yahweh, the Lord of Angel Armies, and have despised the word of the Holy One of Israel!

They will roar and roar on that day like the roaring of crashing waves, and if you look back across the land you’ll see only darkness, disaster, and distress; daylight itself will be obscured by thick clouds.

Look carefully! Darkness blankets the earth, and thick clouds covers the nations, but Yahweh arises upon you and the brightness of his glory appears over you!

or to the earth, they will find only despair and darkness and fearful gloom, and they will be thrust into obscure darkness!”

Give all glory to Yahweh your God before he brings darkness, and you stumble and fall on mountain paths in the dusk of twilight. Give him glory before he turns the light you’re longing for into a death shadow and deep gloom.

Prophesy to the southern forest, ‘Hear the word of Yahweh: Behold, I, Lord Yahweh, say to you that I am about to light a fire in you that will consume every green tree and every dry tree of your land! This blazing fire will not be extinguished as it spreads to the north and consumes everything in its path.

And I heard him say to the other six, “Follow the man in white linen through the city and strike down everyone with no mark on their forehead—old men, young men, girls, children, women—kill them all. Show no mercy, not even one glance of pity. But do not touch anyone with a mark on his forehead. And begin at my sanctuary.” So, they began with those men in front of the temple and with the elders.

For three hours, beginning at noon, a sudden and unexpected darkness came over the earth.

For the sun will be turned dark and the moon blood-red before that great and awesome appearance of the day of the Lord.

Now, don’t forget, God had no pity for the angels when they sinned but threw them into the lowest, darkest dungeon of gloom and locked them in chains, where they are firmly held until the judgment of torment.
