“I, yes I, am the one who comforts you. All the sons of men will be cut down and fade like grass. Why then would you be afraid of a mere human being?

Now I know, Lord, that you are for me, and I will never fear what man can do to me.

It’s true the wicked flourish, but only for a moment; they foolishly forget their destiny with death, that they will all one day be destroyed forevermore.

Everyone curries favor with leaders. But God is the judge, and justice comes from him.

Behold—God is my salvation! I am confident, unafraid, and I will trust in you.” Yes! The Lord Yah is my might and my melody; he has become my salvation!

So once and for all, stop trusting in man, who is but one breath from death—frail and puny man!

Your God says to you: “Comfort, comfort my people with gentle, compassionate words.

I, yes I, am the One and Only, who completely erases your sins, never to be seen again. I will not remember them again. Freely I do this because of who I am!

Sing for joy, you heavens! Shout, you earth, and rejoice with dancing, shouting, and glee! Burst into joyous songs, you mountains, for Yahweh has comforted his beloved people. He will show tenderness and compassion to his suffering ones.

Indeed, Yahweh will comfort Zion, restore her, and comfort all her broken places. He will transform her wilderness into the garden of Bliss, her desert into the garden of Yahweh. Joy and laughter will fill the air with thanksgiving and joyous melodies.

Burst into joyous songs, you rubble of Jerusalem! For Yahweh has graciously comforted his people; he has become the Kinsman-Redeemer of Jerusalem!

“Why were you so afraid of them that you told lies and did not remember me or even care what I thought? Is it because I have been patient and long silent that you no longer fear me?

I am sent to announce a new season of Yahweh’s grace and a time of God’s recompense on his enemies, to comfort all who are in sorrow,

As a mother tenderly comforts her child, so will I tenderly comfort you, and you will find comfort in Jerusalem.”

“Don’t believe their every conspiracy rumor. And don’t fear what they fear—don’t be moved or terrified.

King Zedekiah then said to me, “I’m afraid of our own people who have already defected to the Babylonians. They might give me into their hands; then they will torture me!”

And you, son of man, do not be afraid of them or of anything they say, even though you may feel like you are stepping on thorns and sitting on scorpions. Do not be afraid of their angry words or intimidated by their glaring stares, for they are rebellion personified!

Don’t be in fear of those who can kill only the body but not your soul. Fear only God, who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

“I promise that I will never leave you helpless or abandon you as orphans—I will come back to you!

After this, the church all over Judea, Galilee, and Samaria experienced a season of peace. The congregations grew larger and larger, with the believers being empowered and encouraged by the Holy Spirit. They worshiped God in wonder and awe, and walked in the fear of the Lord.

Human beings are frail and temporary, like grass, and the glory of man fleeting like blossoms of the field. The grass dries and withers and the flowers fall off,
