Yahweh has stretched out his hand over the sea of humanity and has shaken the kingdoms of this world. He has given his command to destroy Phoenicia’s fortresses.

When the nations are in uproar with their tottering kingdoms, God simply raises his voice, and the earth begins to disintegrate before him.

People will hide in caves and holes in the ground from the dreadful presence of Yahweh and from his majestic glory when he rises to mightily shake the earth.

Daughter Tarshish, cross over your land as one crosses the Nile, for there is no more harbor marketplace.

On the great waters your revenue was the grain from the Nile basin. The harvest of the Nile was your revenue. You were merchants who traded with the nations.

The city that was once mighty you’ve turned into a heap of rubble; the fortified city now lies in ruins. The foreigner’s fortress is no more and will never be rebuilt.

For this reason Yahweh’s anger burned against his people, and he struck them down with his holy hand! The mountains trembled, and dead bodies were littered like garbage left in the streets. Even with this, his anger has not turned away and still his hand is heavy upon them!

When I came to you, why was no one there? When I called, why did no one answer? Am I powerless to rescue you or too weak to deliver you? With only a threat I can evaporate the sea and dry up the rivers as a desert, leaving the fish to rot and die of thirst.

Yet how can you rest when Yahweh has given you an assignment? I have ordered it to attack the people of Ashkelon and the seacoast.”

You’ll be covered with dust from their many horses and chariots. Your walls will shake at the rumble of their chariot wheels. His thundering horses will make your walls tremble as they storm through your gates and breach your walls.

They will destroy the walls of Tyre, and demolish her high towers. I will sweep away her rubble and reduce her to nothing but a bare rock.

I made the nations quake at the crashing sound of its fall. They trembled as I hurled it down to Sheol with those who sink into the pit. In the depths of the underworld, all the trees of Eden, the finest well-watered trees of Lebanon, were comforted when the cedar tree joined them.

Then he began to teach the people, saying, “Does not the Scripture say, ‘My house will be a house of prayer for all the world to share’? But you have made it a hangout of thieves!”

And he told the merchants, “Get these things out of here! Don’t you dare commercialize my Father’s house!”
