The Passion Translation

In that day, the Egyptians will become like women who tremble in fear because the Lord Yahweh, Commander of Angel Armies, shakes his fist at them.

This very day, standing at Nob, he will shake his fist at the mountain of the daughter of the house of Zion— at the hill of Jerusalem.

The Lord Yahweh will dry up the gulf of the Egyptian Sea. He will raise his hand over the Euphrates, and with the might of his wind, he will split it into seven streams that can be easily crossed in sandals.

“Raise high a signal flag on a barren hilltop! Shout out! Beckon my armies to invade the gates of the nobles,

A thousand will flee at the threat of one, and all will flee at the threat of five, until nothing will be left of you— like a lonely flagstaff on the top of a hill, or like a signpost on a barren mountain!”

War against her horses, her chariots, and the foreign troops among them! Their mighty warriors will become frightened like ordinary citizens. May the war result in all their treasure being plundered!

Babylon’s warriors had enough of fighting, so they stayed inside their forts. With their courage melted away, they have been left like ordinary civilians. Their city gates have been broken through, and her houses are on fire.

I stood before you feeling inadequate, filled with reverence for God, and trembling under the sense of the importance of my words.

Since we are those who stand in holy awe of the Lord, we make it our passion to persuade others to turn to him. We know that our lives are transparent before the God who knows us fully, and I hope that we are also well known to your consciences.

It is the most terrifying thing of all to come under the judgment of the Living God!
