Like a hunted gazelle, each will return to his own people, and like sheep with no one to gather them, each will flee to his native land.

The nations are roaring like the roar of a massive waterfall, but when God rebukes them they disperse like chaff on the mountains, like a tumbleweed whirling in the wind.

For they have fled from the battle, from the drawn swords, from the bent bows, and from the weight of warfare.

These traders, with whom you have dealt since your youth, will do nothing but disappoint you. Each has wandered off to his own way— there is no one left to rescue you!”

“ ‘Then, after seventy years, I will punish the king of Babylon and the land of the Chaldeans for their sin,’ declares Yahweh. ‘I will make their land desolate forever.

Uproot from Babylon those who plant fields and harvest crops. They have all fled from the attacking army and returned to their homelands.”

They said, ‘We tried to heal Babylon but failed. She can’t be healed, so let’s each go to our own country. For her judgment has reached up to heaven and rises to the very clouds.

When he saw the vast crowds of people, Jesus’ heart was deeply moved with compassion, because they seemed weary and helpless, like wandering sheep without a shepherd.

By the time Jesus came ashore, a massive crowd was waiting. At the sight of them, his heart was filled with compassion, because they seemed like wandering sheep who had no shepherd. So he taught them many wonderful things.

You were like sheep that continually wandered away, but now you have returned to the true Shepherd of your lives—the kind Guardian who lovingly watches over your souls.
