So bless the Lord, all his messengers of power, for you are his mighty heroes who listen intently to the voice of his word to do it.

The splendor of his forest and orchard will be completely destroyed, like a dying man fading away.

His judgment is coming against all the lofty cedars of Lebanon and all the oaks of Bashan,

Assyria will fall by the sword but not the sword of man. It will not be man’s sword that will slaughter them, but God’s! They will run from battle, and their young men will be made slaves.

The land mourns and languishes. Lebanon is disgraced and withered. The fields of Sharon are like a desert. The lands of Bashan and Carmel are stripped bare.

You sent your messengers to mock the Lord. You boast, “My vast number of chariots has taken me up the highest mountains, to the heights of Lebanon’s forests. I cut down its loftiest cedars, its choicest cypresses. I ascended its highest peak and claimed its great forests.

That night the angel of Yahweh came into the Assyrian camp and slaughtered 185,000 soldiers. When morning dawned, there were only dead bodies in the enemy’s camp!

I will appoint a wrecking crew to destroy you, each member with his weapons and tools. They will cut down your pillars of choice cedar and set them on fire.

The fame of Moab is no more. In Heshbon, the enemy plotted Moab’s doom: ‘Come, let’s wipe her off the map.’ For indeed, my sword will leave only silence in your town named Silent.

I know who: Assyria! Once it was like a cedar tree in Lebanon, with its noble branches, its forest shade, and its lofty height, its treetop among the clouds.

“Now you, O king, saw a watcher—a holy messenger—come down from heaven, saying, ‘Cut the tree down and destroy it, but leave the stump and roots in the ground. Encircle it with chains of iron and bronze in the midst of the grass of the field. Let him be damp with the dew every night. Let him live with the animals among the plants of the earth as his appointed lot until seven years have passed by for him.’

and give rest to the troubled, both to you and to us, at the unveiling of the Lord Jesus from heaven with his messengers of power

Yet even angels, who are greater than they in power and strength, do not dare slander them before the Lord.

Then I saw another extremely powerful messenger coming out of heaven, robed in a cloud. There was a halo over his head like a rainbow; his face shined bright like the sun, and his legs like pillars of fire.

Then a mighty angel took up a stone, like a huge millstone, and threw it into the sea, saying: “With this kind of sudden violence, the great city Babylon will be thrown down and exist no more.
