Leah conceived, gave birth to a son, and named him Reuben, saying, “Because Yahweh looked upon me with compassion in my misery, surely, my husband will love me now!”

Later, Reuben went to the pit, and saw that Joseph was gone. He was overcome with grief and tore his clothes.

Then Reuben spoke up, “Didn’t I tell you not to sin against the boy? But you wouldn’t listen! So now we’re paying the price for his murder!”

Later, they camped for the night, and as one of them opened his sack of grain to feed his donkey, he discovered that his money was there right on top of the grain!

Yet even so, you waited and waited, watching to see if they would turn and cry out to you for a father’s help. And then, when you heard their cry, you relented and you remembered your covenant, and you turned your heart toward them again, according to your abundant, overflowing, and limitless love.

Until you lift this burden, the burden of all my sins, my troubles and trials will be more than I can handle. Can’t you feel my pain?

With joy she exclaimed, “See how kind it is of God to gaze upon me and take away the disgrace of my barrenness!”
