The Passion Translation

Then Jacob gave Esau some lentil stew and bread. When Esau had finished eating and drinking, he just got up and walked away. Esau cared nothing about his own birthright.

One day, when Jacob was cooking a stew, Esau returned from hunting, and he was famished.

But Jacob insisted, “First, swear to me that you’ll give it to me.” So, Esau swore an oath and surrendered his birthright to Jacob.

Now, another famine struck the land, like the one in Abraham’s time. Isaac traveled to Gerar where Abimelech was the Philistine king.

His father Isaac asked him, “Who are you?” “I’m Esau, your firstborn son,” he answered.

Yet they still didn’t believe your words and they despised the land of delight you gave to them.

But instead, you celebrated with joy and festivity, slaughtering the sheep and the fatted ox, saying, “We will feast on meat and drink much wine. Eat and drink, for tomorrow we die.”

“But the invited guests were not impressed. One was preoccupied with his business; another went off to his farming enterprise.

and said, “How much are you willing to pay me to betray Jesus into your hands?” They agreed to pay him thirty silver coins.

‘Be amazed and in agony, you scoffers! For in your day I will do something so wonderful that when I perform mighty deeds among you, you won’t even believe that it was I who did it!’ ”

Tell me, why did I fight “wild beasts” in Ephesus if my hope is in this life only? What was the point of that? If the dead do not rise, then Let’s party all night, for tomorrow we die!
