He is not greater in this house than I am, nor has he kept back anything from me except yourself, because you are his wife. How then can I do this great wickedness and sin against God?"

On the third day Joseph said to them, "Do this and you will live, for I fear God:

because your heart was penitent, and you humbled yourself before the LORD, when you heard how I spoke against this place and against its inhabitants, that they should become a desolation and a curse, and you have torn your clothes and wept before me, I also have heard you, declares the LORD.

The former governors who were before me laid heavy burdens on the people and took from them for their daily ration[2] forty shekels[3] of silver. Even their servants lorded it over the people. But I did not do so, because of the fear of God.

For I was in terror of calamity from God, and I could not have faced his majesty.

Many are my persecutors and my adversaries, but I do not swerve from your testimonies.

Even though princes sit plotting against me, your servant will meditate on your statutes.

Be angry,[2] and do not sin; ponder in your own hearts on your beds, and be silent. Selah

All these things my hand has made, and so all these things came to be, declares the LORD. But this is the one to whom I will look: he who is humble and contrite in spirit and trembles at my word.

But the word that is written in their Law must be fulfilled: 'They hated me without a cause.'

Do I lack madmen, that you have brought this fellow to behave as a madman in my presence? Shall this fellow come into my house?"

And he said, "Why does my lord pursue after his servant? For what have I done? What evil is on my hands?
