Oh that you would keep silent, and it would be your wisdom!

The upright are appalled at this, and the innocent stirs himself up against the godless.

And when they saw him from a distance, they did not recognize him. And they raised their voices and wept, and they tore their robes and sprinkled dust on their heads toward heaven.

the princes refrained from talking and laid their hand on their mouth;

"Behold, I am of small account; what shall I answer you? I lay my hand on my mouth.

I am mute; I do not open my mouth, for it is you who have done it.

If you have been foolish, exalting yourself, or if you have been devising evil, put your hand on your mouth.

so shall he sprinkle[2] many nations; kings shall shut their mouths because of him; for that which has not been told them they see, and that which they have not heard they understand.

Therefore he who is prudent will keep silent in such a time, for it is an evil time.

The nations shall see and be ashamed of all their might; they shall lay their hands on their mouths; their ears shall be deaf;

Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments and how inscrutable his ways!

And they said to him, "Keep quiet; put your hand on your mouth and come with us and be to us a father and a priest. Is it better for you to be priest to the house of one man, or to be priest to a tribe and clan in Israel?"
