Then David gave Solomon his son the plan of the vestibule of the temple,[1] and of its houses, its treasuries, its upper rooms, and its inner chambers, and of the room for the mercy seat;

the tent of meeting, and the ark of the testimony, and the mercy seat that is on it, and all the furnishings of the tent,

and put the poles into the rings on the sides of the ark to carry the ark.

And he made two cherubim of gold. He made them of hammered work on the two ends of the mercy seat,

whom God put forward as a propitiation by his blood, to be received by faith. This was to show God's righteousness, because in his divine forbearance he had passed over former sins.

But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law,

who gave himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to purify for himself a people for his own possession who are zealous for good works.

Above it were the cherubim of glory overshadowing the mercy seat. Of these things we cannot now speak in detail.

He is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world.
