then I will pluck you[3] up from my land that I have given you, and this house that I have consecrated for my name, I will cast out of my sight, and I will make it a proverb and a byword among all peoples.

Therefore I will hurl you out of this land into a land that neither you nor your fathers have known, and there you shall serve other gods day and night, for I will show you no favor.'

If at any time I declare concerning a nation or a kingdom, that I will pluck up and break down and destroy it,

" 'And many nations will pass by this city, and every man will say to his neighbor, "Why has the LORD dealt thus with this great city?"

I will make them a horror[1] to all the kingdoms of the earth, to be a reproach, a byword, a taunt, and a curse in all the places where I shall drive them.

And it shall come to pass that as I have watched over them to pluck up and break down, to overthrow, destroy, and bring harm, so I will watch over them to build and to plant, declares the LORD.

Why do you provoke me to anger with the works of your hands, making offerings to other gods in the land of Egypt where you have come to live, so that you may be cut off and become a curse and a taunt among all the nations of the earth?

Thus shall you say to him, Thus says the LORD: Behold, what I have built I am breaking down, and what I have planted I am plucking up -- that is, the whole land.

I will bring the worst of the nations to take possession of their houses. I will put an end to the pride of the strong, and their holy places[9] shall be profaned.

For if you turn away from following him, he will again abandon them in the wilderness, and you will destroy all this people."

And you shall become a horror, a proverb, and a byword among all the peoples where the LORD will lead you away.

and the LORD uprooted them from their land in anger and fury and great wrath, and cast them into another land, as they are this day.'

These are blemishes[5] on your love feasts, as they feast with you without fear, looking after themselves; waterless clouds, swept along by winds; fruitless trees in late autumn, twice dead, uprooted;
