For this reason, when I could bear it no longer, I sent to learn about your faith, for fear that somehow the tempter had tempted you and our labor would be in vain.

But I said, "I have labored in vain; I have spent my strength for nothing and vanity; yet surely my right is with the LORD, and my recompense with my God."

so that we may no longer be children, tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning, by craftiness in deceitful schemes.

holding fast to the word of life, so that in the day of Christ I may be proud that I did not run in vain or labor in vain.

I hope in the Lord Jesus to send Timothy to you soon, so that I too may be cheered by news of you.

For you yourselves know, brothers,[1] that our coming to you was not in vain.

But now that Timothy has come to us from you, and has brought us the good news of your faith and love and reported that you always remember us kindly and long to see us, as we long to see you --
