He devours the distance with fierceness and rage; Nor does he come to a halt because the trumpet has sounded.

If I mocked at them, they did not believe it, And the light of my countenance they did not cast down.

Should He be told that I wish to speak? If a man were to speak, surely he would be swallowed up.

The quiver rattles against him, The glittering spear and javelin.

At the blast of the trumpet he says, ‘Aha!’ He smells the battle from afar, The thunder of captains and shouting.

If I called and He answered me, I would not believe that He was listening to my voice.

O my soul, my soul! I am pained in my very heart! My heart makes a noise in me; I cannot hold my peace, Because you have heard, O my soul, The sound of the trumpet, The alarm of war.

I listened and heard, But they do not speak aright. No man repented of his wickedness, Saying, ‘What have I done?’ Everyone turned to his own course, As the horse rushes into the battle.

If a trumpet is blown in a city, will not the people be afraid? If there is calamity in a city, will not the Lord have done it?

But while they still did not believe for joy, and marveled, He said to them, “Have you any food here?”
