Now Rizpah the daughter of Aiah took sackcloth and spread it for herself on the rock, from the beginning of harvest until the late rains poured on them from heaven. And she did not allow the birds of the air to rest on them by day nor the beasts of the field by night.

They buried the bones of Saul and Jonathan his son in the country of Benjamin in Zelah, in the tomb of Kish his father. So they performed all that the king commanded. And after that God heeded the prayer for the land.

Then Elijah said to Ahab, “Go up, eat and drink; for there is the sound of abundance of rain.”

Now it happened in the meantime that the sky became black with clouds and wind, and there was a heavy rain. So Ahab rode away and went to Jezreel.

So all the men of Judah and Benjamin gathered at Jerusalem within three days. It was the ninth month, on the twentieth of the month; and all the people sat in the open square of the house of God, trembling because of this matter and because of heavy rain.

For by these He judges the peoples; He gives food in abundance.

“Listen to this, O Job; Stand still and consider the wondrous works of God.

For He says to the snow, ‘Fall on the earth’; Likewise to the gentle rain and the heavy rain of His strength.

You water its ridges abundantly, You settle its furrows; You make it soft with showers, You bless its growth.

Be glad then, you children of Zion, And rejoice in the Lord your God; For He has given you the former rain faithfully, And He will cause the rain to come down for you— The former rain, And the latter rain in the first month.
