2 Chronicles 28:19

New King James Version

For the Lord brought Judah low because of Ahaz king of Israel, for he had encouraged moral decline in Judah and had been continually unfaithful to the Lord.

And He said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree of which I commanded you that you should not eat?”

Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves coverings.

Ahaz was twenty years old when he became king, and he reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem; and he did not do what was right in the sight of the Lord, as his father David had done.

And he sacrificed and burned incense on the high places, on the hills, and under every green tree.

So Manasseh seduced Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem to do more evil than the nations whom the Lord had destroyed before the children of Israel.

Look on everyone who is proud, and bring him low; Tread down the wicked in their place.

Now when Moses saw that the people were unrestrained (for Aaron had not restrained them, to their shame among their enemies),

Righteousness exalts a nation, But sin is a reproach to any people.

A man’s pride will bring him low, But the humble in spirit will retain honor.

Ephraim is oppressed and broken in judgment, Because he willingly walked by human precept.

It is a trespass offering; he has certainly trespassed against the Lord.”

For the statutes of Omri are kept; All the works of Ahab’s house are done; And you walk in their counsels, That I may make you a desolation, And your inhabitants a hissing. Therefore you shall bear the reproach of My people.”

“The alien who is among you shall rise higher and higher above you, and you shall come down lower and lower.

“Behold, I am coming as a thief. Blessed is he who watches, and keeps his garments, lest he walk naked and they see his shame.”

The Lord makes poor and makes rich; He brings low and lifts up.
