“ ‘Anyone, whether native-born or foreigner, who eats anything found dead or torn by wild animals must wash their clothes and bathe with water, and they will be ceremonially unclean till evening; then they will be clean.

Do the same with your cattle and your sheep. Let them stay with their mothers for seven days, but give them to me on the eighth day.

“You are to be my holy people. So do not eat the meat of an animal torn by wild beasts; throw it to the dogs.

Then I said, “Not so, Sovereign Lord! I have never defiled myself. From my youth until now I have never eaten anything found dead or torn by wild animals. No impure meat has ever entered my mouth.”

The priests must not eat anything, whether bird or animal, found dead or torn by wild animals.

“ ‘You will make yourselves unclean by these; whoever touches their carcasses will be unclean till evening.

Whoever picks up one of their carcasses must wash their clothes, and they will be unclean till evening.

Of all the animals that walk on all fours, those that walk on their paws are unclean for you; whoever touches their carcasses will be unclean till evening.

The man who burns it must also wash his clothes and bathe with water, and he too will be unclean till evening.

Do not eat anything you find already dead. You may give it to the foreigner residing in any of your towns, and they may eat it, or you may sell it to any other foreigner. But you are a people holy to the Lord your God. Do not cook a young goat in its mother’s milk.

I answered, “Sir, you know.” And he said, “These are they who have come out of the great tribulation; they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.
